Fairhaven, MA (January 26, 2009) - Pat Perez secured his first career PGA TOUR title by capturing the 50th Bob Hope Classic relying upon the New 2009 Pro V1x golf ball. Perez becomes the first player to win with the new model, and the third straight Titleist golf ball loyalist to win through the first three events on the 2009 PGA TOUR.

Perez finished the 90-hole event at 33-under 327, posting a 3-under 69 in a wind-swept final round. He topped Titleist Brand Ambassador John Merrick (Pro V1x, 907D2 driver, 906F3 3-wood, 909H hybrid, ZM irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport Studio Select) by three shots, and was five clear of fourth round leader and Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker (Pro V1, 909D3 driver, 906F2 3-wood, 585H hybrid, 755 irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges) and Mike Weir (Pro V1), as Titleist golf ball players secured the top four positions on the leaderboard.

  • The 32-year-old Perez, playing in the final group, locked up the victory by knocking his approach shot from 200 yards on the final hole to 3 feet to set up an eagle.

  • Merrick's second-place finish was the highest for the 26-year-old, who is beginning his third full season on the TOUR.

  • Stricker established the PGA TOUR-record for consecutive low rounds with a 61-62 on Friday-Saturday.

  • Stricker was also 33-under after four rounds, bettering the tour's 72-hole record of 31-under.

  • Ten of the 13 players who finished among the Top 10 and ties relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success.

  • Other Titleist players following Perez, Merrick, Stricker and Weir on the leaderboard include: Titleist Brand Ambassadors Webb Simpson (T5/Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909F2 3-wood, 909H hybrid, Spin Milled sand and lob wedges) and Tom Pernice (T9/New 2009 Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909F2 3-wood, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design pitching and sand wedges, Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron Futura putter), as well as John Senden (New 2009 Pro V1), Richard S. Johnson (New 2009 Pro V1), Brad Adamonis (Pro V1x) and Chad Campbell (Pro V1).

  • Playing in just his second event since earning his PGA TOUR card, rookie Webb Simpson tied for 5th, following a T9 performance at last week's Sony open in Hawaii.

  • Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Bob Hope Classic with 92 players (72%), more than five times the nearest competitor with 16. The New 2009 Pro V1x was the most played ball at the event with 23 players, followed by the New 2009 Pro V1 with 21. The New 2009 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls will be officially launched at the PGA Merchandise Show this week and begin shipping to golf shops in mid-February.

Titleist was also first in iron sets (38), wedges (122) and putters (47), and second in drivers (29) and fairway metals (T-39).
