Romero Wins on the Champions Tour July 8, 2008 With top-three results on the Champions Tour, PGA Tour and PGA European Tour, the Fourth of July Weekend was a strong one for Callaway Golf Staff Professionals. Eduardo Romero broke a scoring record at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on the Champions Tour, finishing the tournament at 17-under-par to win by one shot at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, New York. Fellow Callaway Golf Staff Pro Fulton Allem finished tied for second at 16-under. For the long-hitting Romero, who is nicknamed “El Gato”, the win was all about consistency. He shot 65-65-69, averaged 293 yards off the tee using his FT-5 Driver, and finished second in putts per greens in regulation with 1.537. Romero uses the FT-5 Driver, Tour 15° X Fairway Wood, 2H X Hybrid, X-20 Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and the Odyssey White Hot XH #1 Putter. "For (me), it's another victory," the Argentine said. "But for the country, it's a new victory for the youngest players. Golf is growing up and up and up. This is very important for Latin America, especially Argentina." Allem shot 66-65-69 on the way to his tie for second place. Fellow Callaway Golf Staff Professional Mark McNulty tied for 10th place at 11-under-par. On the PGA Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Pro Fredrik Jacobson followed up his best performance of the year last week (tie for 9th) with another personal best for the season this week. Jacobson closed with a flourish on the weekend to tie for second place at the AT&T National outside Washington, D.C. The Swede shot 67-72-66-65 to finish the tournament at 10-under-par, two shots behind the winner. On Sunday he birdied five of the final seven holes, including four consecutive, at Congressional Country Club. Jacobson used the FT-5 Driver (8.5°), Tour 13° X Fairway Wood, 2H FT Hybrid, X-Forged Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and an Odyssey Black Series i #1 Putter. “I got a new driver from Callaway, the FT-5, that was working really well and I got excited about that,” Jacobson said after Sunday’s final round. “Because it's been a couple of courses where it's fairly tight and you need to get great chances and you would like to hit driver on as many holes as possible and I've been really comfortable with it. So that's been a huge help for me to know that I've been driving it well.” “I locked up a spot in the next two majors and am really excited about how things have played out the last couple of weeks,” Jacobson told CallawayGolf.com on Sunday. Fellow Callaway Golf Staff Pro Alex Cejka tied for ninth place at 8-under-par, and Callaway Golf Staffer Rocco Mediate continued his strong play since his runner-up finish at the U.S. Open in June. Mediate tied for 18th place at 6-under-par. He opened with a 73 on Thursday but finished with rounds of 68, 67 and 66 the final three days. On the PGA European Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Graeme McDowell finished third at the European Open at the London Golf Club. McDowell shot 65-67-71-73 to finish the tournament 12-under-par at Ash, Kent, England. ”I am feeling great. I am excited about my schedule as I am playing Loch Lomond, Open, Bridgestone and PGA,” McDowell said. “The next four tournaments I play are the biggest on the planet and I am feeling fit and well and playing well, putting in performances on a regular basis and I am excited. Fellow Callaway Golf Staff Pro Stephen Gallacher finished tied for eighth at 5-under-par. At the LPGA’ s P&G beauty NW Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons, Callaway Golf Staff Pro Morgan Pressel tied for 17th, finishing the 54-hole event at 8-under-par. Pressel uses a full bag of Callaway Golf equipment and wears Callaway Golf Footwear. >
