Kenny Perry Captures Third Victory of the Season in a Playoff. Fellow Pro V1x Player Brad Adamonis Posts Personal Best Finish on PGA TOUR.
July 14, 2008
Fairhaven, MA (July 14, 2008) – Playing the best golf of his career, Kenny Perry trusted his Pro V1x golf ball to his third victory in five starts capturing the John Deere Classic in a playoff that included fellow Pro V1x loyalist Brad Adamonis. Following his Buick Open and Memorial titles, Kenny's consistent play continued, topping a leaderboard that saw eight of the top 11 finishers relying on the superior performance of the Pro V1 or Pro V1x. With additional wins on the Nationwide and Canadian tours, Titleist now has 92 worldwide wins, more than all other balls combined. Further evidence that the path to consistent performance when it counts the most, starts with Titleist. Below are the Titleist weekly highlights by tour:
PGA: Kenny Perry relied on the Pro V1x golf ball to top two players, including Brad Adamonis (Pro V1x, 905R driver, 704 CB irons, Vokey Spin Milled sand wedge, Scotty Cameron Newport Squareback putter) in a playoff to win the John Deere Classic. It marked the third victory in five starts for Perry who finished regulation at 16-under 268. Perry now ranks second on the PGA Tour money list and becomes one of only two players with at least three victories on Tour in 2008.
Overnight leader Eric Axley (Pro V1x) and Charlie Wi (Pro V1) were among three players who tied for fourth at 15-under 269.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the John Deere Classic with 102 players, compared to 23 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also the top choice in the iron (41), wedge (157) and putter (63) categories and second in drivers (38) and fairway woods (51).
Perry's win was the 15th for Titleist players on the 2008 PGA TOUR, more than all other golf balls combined.
PGA EUROPEAN: Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Barclays Scottish Open with 99 players, compared to 21 for the nearest competitor, including runner-up James Kingston (Pro V1x, AP2 irons), who made a strong run in the final round, closing with a 5-under 66.
LPGA: Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic with 103 players, compared to 29 for the nearest competitor. Runner-up Nicole Castrale (Pro V1, Scotty Cameron Newport Fastback putter) closed with a final round 64 and finished at 14-under par, two strokes behind the champion. LPGA rookie Shanshan Feng (Pro V1x) - the first exempt player from China to play on the LPGA Tour - shot a 69 for a total of 12-under 272 total and solo fourth place.
NATIONWIDE: Rick Price (Pro V1, 970 fairway metal, Scotty Cameron Futura putter) defeated Chris Anderson (Pro V1x, Scotty Cameron putter) on the first playoff hole of the $1 million Nationwide Tour Players Cup, guaranteeing himself a spot among the 25 Nationwide Tour money winners who will earn PGA TOUR cards in 2009. Price, the first- and third-round leader, shot a final round even-par 72 to close out regulation play with a score of 15-under 273. He won the richest paycheck in Nationwide Tour history with a bogey on the first extra hole. It marks the second career win for Price, who vaulted from No. 46 to No. 3 on the money list. Price has been to Q-school 19 times since turning pro in 1987.
Peter Tomasulo (Pro V1x, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges), David Hearn (Pro V1x, Vokey Design wedges, Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #2 putter) and David Branshaw (Pro V1x, Vokey Design sand wedge, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 putter) tied for third, two shots back, while rookie Oscar Bergman (Pro V1x, 907D2 driver, 906F2 fairway metals, 735 CM irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges) and D.J. Brigman (Pro V1x) shared sixth place at 12-under 276. Of the 13 players who finished among the top 10 and ties, 11 trusted Titleist for their success.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Nationwide Tour Players Cup with 103 players, more than six times the nearest competitor with 15. Titleist was also the top choice in the iron (44), wedge (134) and putter (63) categories. Titleist players have won 14 of the first 18 events on the 2008 Nationwide Tour.
CANADIAN: American John Ellis (Pro V1) made eagle from one foot on the first hole, scored a hole-in-one on the third and birdied the fourth and fifth holes en route to winning the TELUS Edmonton Open by three shots. Ellis's 18-under 266 total gave him his third victory of the year on the Canadian Tour and elevates him to first place on the Order of Merit.
