Lowery Tops Singh in Titleist Pro V1x Playoff at Pebble Beach

Proving his perseverance and performance under pressure, Steve Lowery captured the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in sudden death over fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Vijay Singh. Lowery becomes the second straight Pro V1x playoff winner on the PGA Tour, following J.B. Holmes' win at last week's FBR Open. The win also completed a sweep of the worldwide professional tours this week and advances Titleist's 2008 victory count to 17, more than four times the nearest competitor with 4. Further proof, that wherever and whenever performance matters, more of the world’s best players trust Titleist.

TITLEIST HIGHLIGHTS FROM WEEK ENDING FEBRUARY 10, 2008

PGA TOUR: It was a Pro V1x playoff at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where Steve Lowery captured his first PGA TOUR victory in more than seven years with a birdie on the first extra hole. Lowery, who closed with a final round 4-under 68, topped Vijay Singh, who birdied the 72nd hole to force the sudden death playoff. Both players finished regulation at 10-under 278. The win was the third of Lowery's career, all of them in playoffs. At 47, he is the oldest winner in 71-year history of the tournament.

  • Titleist ambassador Dudley Hart, relying upon the Pro V1x ball and new Titleist AP2 irons, shared overnight leader honors with Singh, and closed with three straight birdies to finish one shot out of the playoff. He tied for third with John Mallinger (Pro V1x) and Corey Pavin (Pro V1, Scotty Cameron Bulls Eye putter), who posted the lowest rounds of the day with a 65 and 66, respectively, as Titleist golf ball players secured the top five positions on the leaderboard.
  • In addition to playing the Pro V1x and new AP2 irons, Dudley Hart's set composition included the 907D2 driver, 906F2 fairway metal, 585.H utility metal, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Xperimental putter.
  • Hart's success continues the momentum of the new AP2 irons following Adam Scott's victory at the Qatar Masters two weeks ago and Top 10 finishes by Ben Crane (T4) and Bill Haas (T9) at last week’s FBR Open. The new irons will be available in golf shops in late March.
  • Titleist was the most played golf ball among professional competitors at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am with 122 players, nearly one hundred more than the nearest competitor with 27. In addition to being the most played ball, Titleist was also the most played wedge (169) and putter (64), and was second in drivers (43) and iron sets (41).
  • Titleist was also the overwhelmingly most played golf ball among the amateur competitors with 142 players, which accounted for nearly 80 percent of the field and more than seven times the nearest competitor with 20. Titleist was also tied for the most putters with 54.

PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: The home country favorite and Pro V1x player thrilled the crowds at Delhi Golf Club to win the inaugural EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters. The 29-year old, who began Sunday two shots off the pace, posted three birdies in the first four holes en route to a final round 67. His 9-under 279 total gave him a two shot victory over Ireland’s Damien McGrane (Pro V1). José Manuel Lara (Pro V1x) finished third, four shots back, as Titleist golf ball players secured the top three positions on the leaderboard.

Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 84 players relying on the Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than five times the nearest competitor with 16.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: The winner birdied five of his last eight holes en route to a final round 4-under 68 and a one-shot victory in the Allianz Championship relying upon the Pro V1x golf ball and Scotty Cameron by Titleist Futura putter. His 14-under 202 total edged two players, including Pro V1 player Bruce Lietzke, for his second career Champions Tour victory.

Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Allianz Championship with 52 players, nearly four times the nearest competitor with 14.

SOUTH AFRICA: Shaun Norris (Pro V1x) earned his first career victory with a convincing six shot victory over his nearest competitor at the inaugural Africa Open. His final round 4-under 68 was the lowest of the day under severely windy conditions and gave him a winning total of 13-under 275. Norris, who began the final round with a one-shot lead, got off to a fast start with a birdie at the first and eagle-3 at the second.
