Looking for his second win of the 2008 season, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Phil Mickelson grabbed the lead after two rounds of the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Mickelson followed his opening-round 65 with a 2-under 68 on Friday, leaving him 7-under for the tournament, one shot up on the field in Fort Worth, Texas.
On Friday, he made four birdies and two bogeys using the FT-5 Driver with I-MIX Technology, the FT Tour 13° Fairway Wood, a mixed set of X-Forged and X-Prototype Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and a White Hot XG #9 Putter.
Fellow Callaway Golf Staff Pro Mark Brooks, playing in his home state, was at 4-under-par for the tournament while still playing his final nine on Friday. Brooks carded a 3-under 67 on Thursday.
The PGA European is contesting one of its marquee events of the season this week, as the top players across the pond gather at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, for the BMW PGA Championship.
Callaway Golf Staff Professional Oliver Wilson fired a 66 on Friday to move into a tie for fourth place at 8-under-par for the tournament. The leader was at 13-under. Wilson carded a 70 in Thursday’s opening round.
Wilson is playing a Fusion Driver from Callaway Golf, X-Forged Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and a White Hot XG Sabertooth Putter.
The Champions Tour is in Rochester, New York, for the first major championship of the 2008 season, the Senior PGA Championship. Callaway Golf Staff Pro Bruce Fleisher was tied for 11th place at 5-over-par for the tournament in difficult conditions at Oak Hill Country Club. The leader was at even-par.
“It's not life and death. You know, I've been there, I've done this. I'm enjoying the ride, enjoying the people, but it's not as important as you think it is,” Fleisher said. “But I'm going to do the best Bruce Fleisher can do and really right now what I'm trying to do is just get the game back in shape, because I haven't been playing that well. I haven't been playing well of late. So this could be a jump start. But again, you know, it's nice to get one under my belt.”
On the LPGA Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Leta Lindley moved into a tie for sixth place at the LPGA Corning Classic in Corning, New York. Lindley carded a 5-under-par 67 on Friday to get to 4-under for the tournament, two shots off the pace.
