Fresh off a top-10 finish last week playing in the PGA Sony Open, TaylorMade Staffer Fred Funk won the Champions Tour's season-opening MasterCard Championship by birdying the final two holes to finish with a 7-under 65 and a two-stroke victory.
Playing TaylorMade's new TP Red golf ball with LDP technology, Funk began the final day in second place, but quickly captured the lead sinking five birdies on the back nine including a chip-in from 20 feet on the 17th and a 7-ft putt on the 18th. Funk finished at 21-under with nine-birdies on the day. Overall, he ranked No. 1 in Birdies with 23 and tied for seventh in Driving Accuracy playing the r7 SuperQuad TP.
The MasterCard Championship title is Funk's third Champions Tour victory in 14 starts and second title in Hawaii in two years. The win also marks the second consecutive week a tour professional has won playing the new TaylorMade LDP golf ball.
