We are here in Texas at the EDS Bryon Nelson Championship and so is the heat and humidity. The temperature has been around the 90's and should stay this way through the weekend. The TPC Four Seasons Resort course has undergone some new renovations including narrower fairways which, combined with Texas winds, will add to what was already a challenging course.
The two themes this week for us in the Tour van were Tour Burner drivers and iron builds. The high winds brought many players into the trailer requesting long irons instead of hybrids to keep the ball down. We built two new sets of irons for J.L. Lewis, one of which was the new Tour Burner. Others who are playing the Tour Burner irons include Shane Bertsch (5-PW), Sean O'Hair (3), Kenny Perry (3-PW) and Dean Wilson (3-PW). Todd Hamilton received some new r7 TP's (2-PW), Martin Laird an r7 TP 2-iron, Paul Stankowski r7 TP's (3-PW), Charlie Wi rac MB TP's (7-PW), Jay Williamson r7 TP's (3-PW) and Matt Goggin a set of r7 TP's.
Trackman was on-hand which helped in getting 26 Tour Burner Drivers in play, the most so far this year and enough to become the No. 1 driver model in the field. New this week in the Tour Burner included James Driscoll, Bob Estes, Sean O’Hair, Brenden Pappas, Corey Pavin and Tim Petrovic. Those continuing to use the driver included Y.E. Yang, Dean Wilson, Jay Williamson, Paul Stankowski, Rod Pampling, Ryan Palmer, Joe Ogilvie, Shaun Micheel, J.L Lewis, Sergio Garcia, Carlos Franco, Harrison Frazar, Jose Coceres and Daniel Chopra.
It has taken some time to get Sean O'Hair into the Tour Burner because his original Burner driver is optimal and obviously it's been working for him this year. This week we were able to give him more ball speed, while tightening his dispersion pattern. He was overly impressed with the outcome and for the first time this year he told us, "It's in the bag".
Congats to Monday qualifiers Jeff Gove and Steve Allen. Steve caved in the face of his r7 quad which gave us the opportunity to build him a new Tour Burner. We also built him a new r7 425 TP and a duplicate r7 quad. Steve prefers the smaller clubhead but was impressed by the numbers he was getting out of the r7 425 TP and Tour Burner. Time will tell if he makes a switch.
