Sorenstam wins Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill by 7 shots for 72nd career victory

Trophy presentations on the 2008 LPGA Tour are starting to have a familiar look to them, with Callaway Golf Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam once again being the center of attention. Sorenstam won for the third time this year on Sunday, this time at the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill in Williamsburg, Virginia. She did it in convincing fashion, trouncing the field by seven strokes with four straight sub-70 rounds to finish at 19-under-par. It was Sorenstam’s third victory of the season and her 72nd career victory on the LPGA Tour, all coming with Callaway Golf equipment.
She used the FT-5 Driver, Tour 15° X Fairway Wood, X 5-wood, X-Prototype Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and an Odyssey White Hot XG Putter to shoot 64-66-69-66. She also wore Tour Authentic Footwear from Callaway Golf in earning her first career victory at Kingsmill.
Sorenstam’s win using the Tour ix Golf Ball means that Tour i Series Golf Balls from Callaway Golf have now won eight of the 11 tournaments that have been played on the LPGA Tour this season.
With the victory, Sorenstam became the first player in LPGA history to amass $22 million in earnings.
“Well, it feels great, amazing, really. Like I've said all week, I like this place and love the golf course and just always wanted to play well here,” Sorenstam said. “I always felt like it was a big tournament on our schedule and the best players are always here. Kind of our PLAYERS Championship. And to come back after last year when I didn't play here, I missed out last year. Now I'm here and winning this tournament is just a wonderful feeling.”
Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professional Lorena Ochoa tied for 12th place at 7-under-par. Ochoa again used the Tour i Golf Ball, which she has used to win five times this season.
