Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professional Lorena Ochoa made it nine wins in 12 LPGA events this season for the Tour i Series Golf Balls when she won her sixth tournament of the 2008 campaign at the Sybase Classic Presented by ShopRite. She finished the rain-shortened tournament in New Jersey 10-under-par to win by one stroke over Callaway Golf Staff Professional Morgan Pressel and four other players, who finished at 9-under.
Ochoa used the Tour i Series Golf Ball, as she has done all season, to shoot 68-67-71 at Upper Montclair Country Club in New Jersey. It was her third straight win at the Sybase Classic. The second round was washed out due to rain.
“It was a tough day, but I did it. I think that was what was important,” Ochoa said. “It doesn't matter how you do it sometimes; you play really good, other players struggle, sometimes you just keep yourself in a good position. Today it was different; it was a different win, but I enjoyed it a lot. I felt a lot of adrenaline, a lot of pressure in the last two holes, and I liked that feeling.”
The 19-year-old Pressel carded the lowest final round score with a 6-under-par 66. She shot 70-71 the first two days.
“It definitely gives me a lot of confidence,” Pressel said. “My ball-striking is great and just a little bit of work on the putting like I've been doing. But my putting was pretty good all week. I gave myself a lot more opportunities today, so you're going to miss a few more.”
Pressel used the FT-5 Driver, X 3-, 5-, and 7-woods, an FT Hybrid, X-Forged Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and the Odyssey White Hot Tour 2 Putter.
Callaway Golf Staff Pros Annika Sorenstam and Momoko Ueda finished in a tie for 11th place at 5-under-par. Sorenstam, who announced that she will step away from competitive golf at the end of the 2008 season, had won her last two tournaments using the Tour ix Golf Ball and a full bag of Callaway Golf equipment, as she has for her entire career.
Sorenstam used the FT-5 Driver, Tour 15° X Fairway Wood, X 5-wood, X-Prototype Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and an Odyssey White Hot XG Putter.
