With precise play from tee to green, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Phil Mickelson distanced himself from the field on Sunday for his first career victory at THE PLAYERS Championship. The two-stroke win in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, was the 31st of Mickelson’s PGA career and he did it with very little drama.

Mickelson’s lone bogey over the final 27 holes at TPC Sawgrass came on the tournament’s final hole with the outcome all but assured. He fired a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday to finish the tournament 11-under-par, locking up his second victory of the 2007 season and signaling to the rest of the golf world that he will be a force to reckon with as the summer schedule heats up.

On his way to taming the demanding, new layout at TPC Sawgrass, Lefty used every tool in his bag - the FT-5 Driver, a Tour 13° X Fairway Wood, 2H and 3H X Hybrids, the new X-Forged Irons, X-Tour Wedges, the HX Tour Golf Ball and a prototype Odyssey Putter.

"What I'd like to do is have four days of ball-striking like today's final round and then it takes a lot of pressure off my short game," Mickelson said. "It was a very mediocre day for me putting. I could have run it high if I would have made some reasonable putts. I will gladly take the way the round went because it was a stress-free type round."

With the win, Mickelson moved to No. 2 in the World Golf Rankings and into second place in the PGA Tour’s new FedExCup standings. He shot 67-72-69-69. In just three weeks of working with new instructor Butch Harmon, Mickelson has seen substantial results and sounds ready for the season’s next two majors.

"That's what's most exciting is I feel like we're just getting started," Mickelson said. "This is only week No. 3. I feel like in three months how much am I going to progress? In three years where am I going to be? I've seen an immediate difference in three weeks, and I can't wait for another three weeks to go by and start getting ready for the U.S. Open. And another three or four weeks to go by and get ready for the British. I'm really excited about the direction I'm headed."

On the PGA European Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Pro Thomas Bjorn finished in sixth place at the Valle Romano Open de Andalucia in Spain. The Dane shot 71-69-66-67 to finish the tournament 15-under-par, five shots off the pace.

On the LPGA Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Morgan Pressel finished in a tie for 10th place at the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill. She shot 67-72-68-74 to finish the tournament 3-under-par, seven shots back.
