Callaway Golf Staff Professional Ernie Els pulled out all the stops on Sunday at the 89th PGA Championship before finishing third, just three shots off the pace in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Trailing by six strokes entering the final round, the South African used his FT-i Driver and HX Tour Golf Ball to play an aggressive round in an effort to win his first Wannamaker Trophy.

Els carded six birdies and two bogies on the day to close with a 4-under 66 and finish the tournament 5-under-par. He was one of only five players to finish the tournament below par amid oppressive heat at Southern Hills Country Club. He shot 72-68-69-66 for the tournament.

"Every day I made a bunch of birdies. You know, I haven't done that in any majors that I've played recently,” Els said after the final round. "So, there's a lot of good in my game. I'm not quite there where I think I can be."

In addition to the FT-i Driver and HX Tour Golf Ball, Els used the Tour 15° X Fairway Wood, X 5-wood, X-Forged Irons and the Odyssey White Hot XG #5 Center Shafted Putter.

"My Callaway equipment, I'm starting to feel comfortable with it," Els added. "It's been a big change for me this year. I changed before the Masters and I'm starting to feel comfortable with that. My putting is better, my short game is coming around. I just have to keep going on this trend."

Callaway Golf Staff Professional Phil Mickelson finished 6-over-par in a tie for 32nd. Mickelson closed with a 1-under-69 on Sunday. Fellow Callaway Golf Staffer Niclas Fasth finished 8-over in a tie for 41st.

“I think this is a wonderful setup. I thought it was very fair,” Mickelson said of the golf course. “There wasn't the forced wedge-out. You could try some shots, and guys tried some shots and it cost them and some guys pulled them off. I thought the set-up was great because you could attack some pins. You could go after a lot of pins, there were a lot of birdie holes out there.”

On the Nationwide Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Ricky Barnes finished in a tie for 15th place at the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic this weekend. Barnes shot 65-70-71-71 to finish the tournament 7-under-par, seven shots off the pace.
