Pebble Beach, CA... It's safe to say that Steve Lowery does not shy away from challenges. Coming off of a wrist injury in '07 and 3 shots down with four to play, Steve stepped up and played some of the best golf of his life, birding 17 which would eventually lead to a playoff against fellow Cleveland staffer and Hall of Famer Vijay Singh.
Steve stood on the 18th tee at Pebble Beach for a playoff hole against one of the toughest competitors in tour history, Vijay Singh. It had been 7 years since his last victory and was under the gun to make $282,558 over eight tournaments to keep his card. No one would have questioned had Lowery crumbled under the pressure, however, on Feb 10, 2008 this would not be the case. Lowery played the world renowned 18th at Pebble Beach to perfection- a perfect drive followed by a wedge shot that zipped back to within 7 feet and putt which seemed like clock work for the 47 year-old. Just like that it was over. Steve went from being on the verge of losing his card, to walking away with $1.08 million and a two year exemption. Perseverance wins.
