Never one to shy away from a little extra effort, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam put in some overtime on Sunday then reaped the rewards by claiming her second victory of the 2008 LPGA season at the Stanford International Pro-Am in Aventura, Florida. Sorenstam won the tournament with a par on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. She shot 68-67-70-70 to finish the tournament 8-under-par.
It was the 71st victory of Sorenstam’s Hall of Fame career, all coming with Callaway Golf equipment. This week, she used the FT-5 Driver, a Tour 15°X Fairway Wood, an X 5-wood, X-Prototype Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball, an Odyssey White Hot XG Putter and Callaway Golf’s Tour Authentic Footwear to win for the 16th time in the 22 career playoffs she has been in. Tour i Series Golf Balls have now won the last five tournaments on the LPGA Tour and seven of the nine LPGA tournaments that have been played this season.
“This week I hit the ball beautifully, I thought, especially my iron shots,” Sorenstam said after her win. “I've had good distance control, and that's always been my strength. It's been a while since I really felt that. I believe my injury is really healing and I'm starting to feel shots again. That feeling disappeared a little bit when I didn't have the control. I'm hitting my iron shots on the number, and that's what I love and that's how I play golf.”
Fellow Callaway Golf Staff Professional Momoko Ueda finished third at 5-under-par for the tournament. The LPGA Tour rookie used a full bag of Callaway Golf equipment, including the FT-5 Driver, X Fairway Woods (3, 5, 7, and 9), X-Forged Irons, the Tour ix Golf Ball and the Odyssey Tri Hot #3 Putter.
On the PGA Tour, Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professional Ryan Moore used the Tour i Golf Ball to finish second at the EDS Byron Nelson Classic. After 72 holes Moore was tied atop the leaderboard at 7-under-par, but he lost on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff.
